Artist Statement

My work explores the intersections of grief, magick, and the human condition through an occult lens on porcelain vessels and sculptures. I view making work as an act of resistance and resilience against the overwhelming grief and adversity life tends to bring. I am inspired by visual imagery from Middle Ages media & symbolism; such as tarot and alchemical manuscripts. I hand paint my work in luminous hues of blue and orange to create an electricity between my abstract motifs. I hope my work brings a sense of mystery that hints at the interconnectedness of the human experience with the divine that has been explored and expressed for centuries.

In my creative process, I combine the texture of expressive brushstrokes and sgraffito to imbue my work with a sense of multi-dimensionality. I think of my work as three dimensional paintings that happen to be on functional forms. Each piece invites a silent collaboration between maker and beholder, allowing them to infuse their own interpretations and intentions onto the work's purpose.
